Workplace overview
Centralsjukhuset Karlstad offers a broad range of surgical services, including inpatient care, surgical and urology outpatient clinics, a breast center, and one of Sweden’s most advanced endoscopy units.
The endoscopy department handles both scheduled and emergency procedures during daytime hours, including complex interventions in the gastrointestinal tract. The team consists of around 20 experienced professionals who work in a warm, collaborative, and quality-driven environment.
The clinic maintains a strong focus on continuous development. It regularly hosts national training sessions in colonoscopy techniques for physicians and endoscopy nurses. In recent years, the department also welcomed an international expert from Japan to lead targeted training in ESD procedures...
Your responsibilities
As a specialist, you will perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures in the gastrointestinal tract. Your work will also involve assessing and prioritising referrals, participating in polyp conferences and multidisciplinary case discussions, and contributing to ongoing quality improvement and service development.

Who we’re looking for
We are currently seeking a specialist in gastroenterology or general surgery with:
- Certified specialist in surgery or gastroenterology
- Several years of clinical experience in endoscopy
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written)
- Willingness to learn Swedish – free language training is provided before relocation
Our partner hospital offers:
Swedish language training before you relocate
Permanent, full-time position (40 hours/week)
A monthly gross salary starting from €6,500 (SEK 72,000). The final salary will be set individually, based on your qualifications and professional experience, and confirmed once you have obtained your Swedish medical license in your specialty. An annual salary review is included.
On-call duties may be required and will be discussed on an individual basis. Additional compensation is provided for work during evenings, weekends, nights, public holidays, and overtime, in accordance with regional agreements and paid on top of the base monthly salary.
A pre-visit for you and your family will be arranged, so you can explore the hospital and the city before making your final decision.

We expect you to have:
A valid medical license and recognized specialist qualification in gastroenterology or general surgery from a European Union (EU) member state.
Preferably, a minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience in endoscopy following completion of your specialist training.
A commitment to complete the free Swedish language training provided in your home country, with a goal to reach a C1 level of the target language (Swedish) at the end of the training.
