Region Värmland provides healthcare for approximately 290,000 residents and operates three acute hospitals in Karlstad, Arvika and Torsby.

The gastroenterology service is primarily based at Centralsjukhuset Karlstad, which delivers the most specialized care in the region. The unit has an extensive outpatient practice with a strong focus on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and medical liver diseases.

You will have access to endoscopy services and modern ultrasound equipment for abdominal ultrasound and elastography. Inpatient care is provided at Ward 58, with 6–8 dedicated gastroenterology beds. The gastroenterology section is part of the Department of Internal Medicine and participates in the internal medicine on-call service at the hospital.

Centralsjukhuset Karlstad serves both as a county hospital and a local hospital, offering highly specialized care across around 20 medical specialties. The hospital has approximately 500 beds and 3,800 employees, including around 500 physicians.


Your responsibilities:
As a specialist in gastroenterology, you will work independently as an endoscopist, performing both gastroscopies and colonoscopies. In addition to your endoscopic practice, you will manage patients with general internal medicine conditions and gradually participate in the internal medicine on-call service, where different types of shifts may become relevant over time. You will also contribute actively to service development and continuous quality improvement, working in close collaboration with colleagues within a person-centred care model.

Who is this position for?
We are currently seeking a specialist in gastroenterology with:

- Independent competence in gastro- and colonoscopy

- Ability to manage patients with general internal medicine conditions 

- Willingness to participate in internal medicine on-call duties 

- Strong social competence and teamwork skills 


        What is offered?

        • A complete online Swedish language training up to C1 before you relocate.

        • Permanent, full-time position (40 hours/week)

        • A monthly gross salary starting from €7,000 (SEK 74,200). The final salary will be set individually, based on your qualifications and professional experience. An annual salary review is included.

        • A minimum of 25 days of annual leave, and newly employed staff accrue paid vacation from their first day of employment. The annual leave entitlement exceeds the statutory minimum requirements.

        • On-call duties may be required and will be discussed on an individual basis. Additional compensation is provided for work during evenings, weekends, nights, public holidays, and overtime, in accordance with regional agreements and paid on top of the base monthly salary.

        We expect you to have:

        • A valid medical license and recognized specialist qualification in gastroenterology from a European Union (EU/EEA) member state.

        • Additional experience is considered an advantage, particularly specialist training in internal medicine.

        • Commitment to complete the free Swedish language training provided in your home country, with a goal to reach a C1 level at the end of the training.
